The Shanghai Institute of Planned Parenthood Research (SIPPR) was founded in 1978 in light of national family planning policy and the long-term development strategy for science and technology. The year 1979 saw the establishment of the WHO Collaborating Center for Research in Human Reproductive Health in SIPPR. Ever since 1983, SIPPR has been consecutively designated as one of the major collaborating centers of WHO/HRP in area of Reproductive Health. The institute aims at being leading domestic center; making progress in scientific researches in order to carry out the national policy; controlling population and improving the quality of population. SIPPR also keeps an open eye on the outside world and has been developing in cooperation with international organizations and agencies in order to make contributions to the global human reproductive health. SIPPR is now standing as one of the principal members of Shanghai Life Science Research Center, a national resource institute for fertility regulating studies, and one of the largest WHO collaborating centers among Asia Pacific region. With continuous support from the Government, WHO, and UNFPA, SIPPR has developed into a comprehensive research center on the national level and international collaborating resource for human reproductive health. Till now SIPPR has successfully conducted many national key projects and international research programs. In SIPPR there are the Departments of Pharmaceutical Development, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Reproductive Epidemiology and Social Science, Reproductive Biology and Hospital. The research covers a wide variety ranging from developing contraceptive drugs and devices, quality monitoring, basic science in reproductive health, epidemiology and social science, clinical pharmacology and trails, reproductive regulating pharmacology and toxicology test and other related researches. By means of editing and publishing bilingual (Chinese and English) journals--“Reproduction & Contraception”, the latest information of reproductive health is being widely disseminated among the circle and the mass. SIPPR has a Special Hospital of Reproductive Health.
